Obama Tax Rebate

In response to a CNN Money article which finished with the Obama tax rebate and asked for input for the next story - "How will you spend it?"

Jeanne,
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Obama but I'm not sure now is such a great time for a tax credit. I understand the economics. Free money gets spent thus boosting the economy but we have just come out of the greatest spending spree of all time and it has gotten us here. I know that a tax credit for working Americans sounds good during an election but I think a better message to be sending is restraint, considering the state of our nation's economy. It's like how everyone always wants to vote themselves a tax cut. All we are really doing when we do that is voting our great country a pay cut. I think it deserves better. I think it needs the money right now more than we do.

I'm at the bottom of the barrel income-wise and could, like many others, use the money. And I don't mean for SUV or big screen payments but for rent and basic services. Still, if the money comes in the form of a check I will be tearing it up. If it comes as a deduction on my taxes I won't check the box or claim the deduction. If it is forced on me I will find a way to spend $500 that does the most for Us. Maybe another solar panel for the home (which is a boat in my case).

Because of a low income year for me I ended up not qualifying for the previous rebate check. Had I gotten it the money from my check was slated for the Obama campaign. I could see no better way to serve my country, nay humanity, than to support the rise of this great man.
