I was just reading an article in Popular Science on the switch to renewables. "The Last Drops" was written by a Mr Roberts.
I keep seeing this. These guys distracting the issue. Pretending that we need to find one replacement for coal, gas, oil and other stuff we burn for energy. The beautiful solution is that there are many renewable options, in use now, that can be employed on a mass scale that can replace burning stuff.
I put in my two cents:
Interesting article, it was like reading an ad for the fossil fuel industry. We may have lost Mr. Roberts to a higher bidder.
Hydrogen and biofuels that are not ready for primetime have been used as a de-railer by Bush and now we're seeing it being used by Mr. Roberts. Those fuels are not developed enough for large scale production. The mention of them draws attention away from energy sources that are ready to remove our dependence on oil - solar, wind, hydro, wave, geothermal etc.. Nuclear should be considered as a bridge if it can prove that it is cost effective against renewables. Natural gas is another bridge fuel if it can be extracted without poisoning people via fracking. Filthy coal and oil have to end asap.
The burn-things-for-energy industry is very powerful and will resist. The people will win because they are fighting for their lives. Toxins from coal and oil are killing people. Climate change is ending various animal species.
CA and Los Angeles have committed to a large percentage of electricity to be gotten from renewables. And this during a time of deep economic turmoil. My prediction is that CA will come out of the long recession first and rule the planets renewable revolution. Stand by and watch while moral focus triumphs.
