CFL lights save electricity. I have all CFL's in my home. It took the tech a while to develop but all of ours are now warm white instead of the old cold blue white.
CFL's have a downside, they contain a small amount of mercury. Yep, the toxin that coal plants dump in the air and we are fighting so hard against is now in our lights. It is only a problem if you break a CFL. Please recycle them when they do finally go out. Recycling and break cleanup info:

The new tech is LED. They don't have chemicals, last even longer and use even less electricity. They do have the same cold blue light that CFL's had. Like CFL's, there are some companies that have solved the warm light riddle for LED's. Prices are falling now and should be reasonable in the next year or so.
