Medicare, SS and Defense

We were discussing the pending mass retirement issue:

With 7000 baby boomers retiring every day now, cuts are going to happen.  Either we implement controlled cuts now or face budgetary shortfalls and abrupt shutoffs later.

I would like to see a president declare a state of financial emergency.  To look us in the eye and tell us "Everyone who relys on government funding will now experience a temporary cut in service.  Services will be scaled back until our debt is paid.  We all are responsible for the debt.  We are going to do the honorable thing and not saddle unborn Americans with it."

And first cut defense.  End wars and bring home most of our sodiers from around the world.  Germany and Japan don't need them.  Fund security at home and information gathering abroad.  Fund surgical strikes via air.  The only boots on the ground are our highest trained in in and out operations.

Ways to cut healthcare.  End the perscription bill and allow the govt. to make deals on meds.  Single payer, a government program for very basic medical care.  Basic and preventative care is free and encouraged.  Natural remedies are tried first.  Prosecute abuse on all three sides, patient, doctor, insurance company.  Allow insurance copanies to operate across state lines.  Reduce lawsuits, use arbitors.  End of life planning and hospice.
