I read that our trade deficit has increased to 6%, the highest in 10 years. So I put forth my solution again.
Apply the real cost to products. Let's call it Actual Cost ('til someone comes up with a more clever name). Actual Cost includes the cost of health and environmental damage that the materials extraction, manufacture and shipping cause. The increase to the current cost could be set low, a token. But it would stop punishing cleaner US manufacturing.
Result? More jobs at home. Reduced pollution. US led greening of global manufacturing. Wipe out our trade deficit. Boost our economy by encouraging more manufacturing at home.
This is something we can all get behind and feel good about.
