Dude, good job with the election. I was pulling for you. I have a couple suggestions for improvement to your plan for our country.
Bailout: Let big lending companies fail, they've earned it. Let's, as tax payers, open up our own lending institution where we offer better secured loans to companies that promise to be or are inherently green. Let's get our country pointed in the right direction.
Mortgages: I want my money buying the homes. The people that bought homes they can't afford can rent the home until they get to a point where they can afford to buy it back for an amount that has us profit, if slightly, for our goodwill.
Big Auto: If I, the taxpayer, am going to have my money spent to help the auto industry I want it structured like this: let's buy in and get some ownership. Top management gets the axe (does anyone not agree with this move). Money we provide can only be used on retooling for electric and hydrogen and select hybrid cars. When sales take off, the car company can buy our shares back. To streamline the big companies let's make it part of the deal to sell off plants to private companies (GM considered public if it's asking for public $). Private companies that will build environment friendly vehicles and products.
Our big comeback: If we're going to spend money let's spend money on our future. Do what brought us out of the last depression – spend on infrastructure. Back then we built new roads and rail and bridges and tunnels. It employed people and boosted our economy and built a foundation of infrastructure that benefits us still. Today we have the opportunity to build new solar and wind farms, geothermal and ocean wave generation, smart energy grids, farm towers and electric shuttles, help gas stations to provide electricity, hydrogen and air pressure (zero impact vehicles). Every rooftop should either be covered with solar panels, mini farms, solar heaters and/or wind generators.
Healthcare: This is the United States. Our country will provide minimum basic healthcare for everyone. Level 1: If you don't have insurance, you wait in a long line, don't get the top expensive drugs and may die waiting for a kidney but for most injuries and ailments you will get patched up and quickly sent on your way. Legalize marijuana so that the chronic (used to mean people that are dying, not high end bud) have access to an inexpensive though effective medication. Profits could go toward the first two levels of care. Level 2: Government offered low-fee insurance with less restricted coverage. Private insurance remains to compete for a higher end coverage for private and corporate policies. Selling points being 3-6+ level of coverage.
US Occupation of Iraq: Instead of going in on foot (who's idea was that?) the Us should have adopted my pre-war plan and bombed whatever buildings they wouldn't let us search - end of problem. Now? We could do what Cuba does to ensure stability. Hire half of the population to work for the government. Let's train legions of Iraqi military and police but also fire, health services, teachers etc. and let Iraq pay Us and Eu's for our services. Want a job? Go to Iraq and help the training effort. Our ground troops could shift to a defensive force protecting the areas where training is occurring. This would open up thousands of job oportunities, like a massive Peace Corps effort, it would also bring good will. Airstrikes (hopefully of the surgical variety) support Iraqi troops in their defense of there country outside the training areas.
That's all I have for now. If you would like to hear some more ideas you can get my number from the previous administration, I'm an ATT customer.
You Ba Rock!
